Following the tragic shooting last year, many Mukilteo residents banded together, creating Mukilteo Strong Alliance. After nearly a year, one of their ideas has taken shape and they along with many city residents and the City of Mukilteo are focusing on a Peace Park. This location would be a place for reflection and would incorporate natural elements such as a woodland area, artwork and other calming influences. A peace park would honor not only the shooting victims of last summer, but would recognize the many suicide victims that have dotted our past years.
Many are grateful for the forum, and appreciate the community support that has come in the form of counseling, funding in part by the City, and other collaborative efforts by local residents.
Mayor Gregerson noted that the goal is to begin construction in the early part of 2018 with a projected open day of summertime. In the meantime, a community gather is scheduled for July 30, 1-4p at Lighthouse Park.
