There’s A New Chief In Town

August 24, 2016 By Administrator

Thirteen years ago Cheol Kang joined the Mukilteo Police Department and hard work and dedication to this community earned him the seat of Chief of Police. After a national search by the City, Kang was offered and accepted the position and it’s a decision that our town can happy with.

Kang’s experience with the Department includes detective, sergeant, crime prevention officer, public information officer, commander and most recently Interim Chief. If that were not enough, he’s taught college classes, creating a curriculum on criminal justice, is a member of the Mukilteo Elementary PTSA and Cub Scouts Pack 16, and regular attends Mukilteo Kiwanis and Chamber of Commerce meetings. Cheol is a leader and his innate skills, community awareness and commitment to Mukilteo will serve us all well in the years to come. Congratulations, Chief Cheol Kang.

You’ve probably been seeing yellow ribbons tied all over town. A few weeks ago we had an unfortunate incident happen which devastated our community, forcing us all to ask the question, “How could this happen in our town?” “How did we not see the signs?” Sometimes things happen and there is no understanding how someone’s mind works, or why actions were taken to that extreme.

One thing we can do as a community is to become “more aware.” Part of that includes educating ourselves about how to manage tragic circumstances before they happen. The yellow ribbons are there to build awareness of suicide and its insidious grasp on many in our town. Could depression and suicide be avoided by talking to someone?

The Mukilteo Youth Coalition offers support to our community. Check out their website.
